Equiptable Opportunity Statement
Equity is at the core of my teaching philosophy. While equality assumes that every student receives the same treatment, equity recognizes that each learner has unique circumstances and may require different levels of support to thrive. True equity means providing students with the specific resources, opportunities, and guidance they need to succeed.
I believe that every student, regardless of race, ethnicity, language, culture, religion, gender, socio-economic status, sexuality, domestic circumstances... deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued in a learning environment that is inclusive, respectful, and fair. Each individual has the right to a high-quality dance education in a space where their unique needs are acknowledged and met with care and compassion.
I strive to create a classroom that is welcoming to all, one that not only celebrates the rich cultural diversity of our community but also fosters mutual appreciation. I will ensure that no participant experiences any harassment or bullying during my dance classes, and will take positive action to counteract and report any discrimination or harassment that occurs during my session. Additionally, I actively work to reduce barriers to participation and advocate for dance as an inclusive, accessible, and empowering art form.
My commitment to equity is ongoing. I continuously self-reflect and seek opportunities to learn from students, fellow educators, and scholars in the field. I aim to cultivate a learning environment where every dancer, regardless of their background, can grow, express themselves fully, and experience a true sense of belonging.
